Children are our future, however in Chemung County we have some of the highest rates of child maltreatment and admission to foster care in New York State. Over half our children do not eat balanced meals at home or get sufficient exercise. These are staggering statistics - statistics that can change through programs such as Chemung County’s Annual Strong Kids Safe Kids Festival. Your contribution to this unique community event can provide families and kids with a day of fun educational activities and free family entertainment aimed at promoting awareness of children’s health and safety issues, and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
2011 was Strong Kids Safe Kids 27th year of providing a fun filled day of education and entertainment, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Approximately 15,000 attendees came from Chemung County and surrounding communities, over 100 participating agencies provided hands on activities promoting agency services, and 125 volunteers helped the day go smoothly. A day packed with entertainment; activities like the Imagination Station & the Arts & Culture Corner; the distribution of 1,500 bags of free school supplies; and health and safety awareness demonstrations and activities provided by local fire, law enforcement, and health care providers made the day fun and educational.
