Children are our future, however in Chemung County we have some of the highest rates of child maltreatment and admission to foster care in New York State. Over half our children do not eat balanced meals at home or get sufficient exercise. These are staggering statistics, statistics that can change through programs such as Chemung County’s Annual Strong Kids Safe Kids Festival. Your contribution to this unique community event can provide families and kids with a day of fun educational activities and free family entertainment aimed at promoting awareness of children’s health and safety issues, and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
10,000 people attended the 2007 event throughout the day at our new home, the Chemung County Fairgrounds. The event, which cost nearly $10,000 to put on, was the largest attended SKSK festival by far, and it keeps growing. Through the generous support of community businesses and organizations, we were able to hand out 1,000 bags of free school supplies; showcase a 400 square foot Imagination Station where kids exercised their creativity and imagination; provide more hands on activities; distribute 1,000 free books, showcase live entertainment on our stage; and much, much, more.
